Travel Advisory, January 25

Posted: January 25, 2026

Travel Advisory issued by Sheriff Scott A. Cicirello...

A significant winter storm continues to impact Allegany County, bringing dangerous cold and substantial snowfall. According to current storm updates, general accumulations are now estimated at 14-17 inches across the county, with snowfall rates of 1-2 inches per hour in some areas. Temperatures remain bitterly cold, with highs only 10-15°F and lows falling into the single digits or below zero across elevations. Wind chills overnight and into early week may reach -10°F or lower, creating hazardous conditions for anyone outdoors.

Travel Advisory - All Roads in Allegany County

Due to heavy snowfall, blowing snow, and rapidly deteriorating road conditions, a Travel Advisory is in effect for all roads in Allegany County. Travel is strongly discouraged unless absolutely necessary. Visibility may be sharply reduced during heavier bands, and untreated roads will become slick and hazardous. Forecasters emphasize that travel during this storm may be dangerous, especially given the combination of heavy snowfall and extreme cold.

If travel is unavoidable:

During a travel advisory, no roads are closed; however, no unnecessary travel is advised. The Allegany County Sheriff's Office cannot determine the necessity for any individual to report to work.

Stay Safe & Stay Updated. Continue to monitor official updates from the National Weather Service and local emergency management. Conditions may change quickly as the storm progresses.
